Description
Here in the South Carolina mountains, the mountain laurel puts forth its delicate blooms at the end of April and into May. These perennial shrubs can grow up to 9 feet tall and are native to the Eastern United States. It is also the state flower of Connecticut and Pennsylvania, where it blooms in May and June. Mountain laurel is also nicknamed Spoonwood because Native Americans used the wood to make spoons.
