Description
Butterfly weed (Asclepias Tuberosa) is a member of the milkweed family, but the stems do not produce a milky substance when broken. Favoring dry or sandy soil, this beautiful wildflower attracts not only butterflies, but hummingbirds, bees and other insects because of its copious production of nectar. It is also used by the Monarch and Queen butterflies for larval food. These wildflowers usually bloom in the last weeks of May and into June in the Southeast US.
