Description
A male northern cardinal (cardinalis cardinalis) sits on a branch of a tulip poplar tree with a background of white pines on a winter day. The dark green of the pines makes his bright red feathers a cheerful accent in an otherwise dull day. A non-migrating bird, cardinals are seen mainly in the United States from the mid west to the east coast and down in Mexico, and into a small area of Canada.
