Description
Standin’ on the Corner Park in Winslow AZ, features statues of Eagles band members Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey and a mural memorializing the lyrics of their 1972 hit song, “Take it Easy.”
The "building" is the last standing wall of a building with a mural depicting the windows, flat bed Ford, etc., described in the song. After a fire damaged the adjacent building, it was razed, leaving only the famous wall.
Standin' on the Corner Park, which opened in 1999,is a public park, commemorating the 1972 song "Take It Easy", written by Jackson Browne and the late Glenn Frey, and most famously recorded by the Eagles. The song includes the verse "Well, I'm a standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona and such a fine sight to see. It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me."
The park contains a two-story trompe-l'oeil mural (3-D like) by John Pugh, and, originally, a life-size bronze statue of Jackson Browne by Ron Adamson standing on a corner with a guitar. The park is surrounded by a wall of bricks, each with a donor's name on it, and a story by each of the donors describing their fondness for Winslow.
A second statue, of the late Glenn Frey, was added and dedicated in the park on September 23, 2016.
