Description
A perky tufted titmouse (baeolophus bicolor) turns his head to check that he will be alone at the feeder. The favorite food of a titmouse is a sunflower seed and this feeder is jammed with them. He will pry one loose, fly quickly to a tree and, holding the seed in his feet, will hammer it with his bill till it breaks apart, quickly eat it, then fly back to the feeder to repeat the process. You will often see a tufted titmice with chickadees year round. Titmice also hoard and store their food so he will never go hungry!
