Description
I was impressed by the amazing landscapes and vistas all across Ireland, but there was something about the wilds of Connemara that especially resonated within me. Such was that I found myself on in a hostel near the village of Leenane in County Galway. And on that first day, I was scrambling down a muddy path to the banks of Killary Fjord to see the sight you see in this landscape panorama.
It was worth every slip and slide in the mud and it was a brilliant light that I wouldn't see replicated for the remainder of my visit in Connemara. The view was so amazing that I had to make this impossibly large panorama of the vista that I saw before me, looking from the banks of this natural harbor to County Mayo on the opposite side. In fact, I've squeezed so much of that landscape into the confines of this panorama that there's a greatly exaggerated curve to the shore line, but it was worth it to me because I was truly amazed by the view and wanted to be able to share every inch of it that I could.
There's some debate about whether this is truly Ireland's only fjord. Some say that Killary is simply a deep natural estuary or harbour, but the marketing types seem intent on making it a bit more exotic by calling it a fjord. The truth is it hardly matters. Once you're standing there was I was, you'll be in awe at the beauty of it, whatever one calls it.

Thanks Byron - it was definitely winter! I still have vivid memories of walking down that slippery slope to the water, but so worth it. :-)
