Description
This antique Japanese triptych was created in 1881 by Hiroshige Utagawa, 1842-1894, a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, considered the last great master of that tradition. This is from his wood cut engraving, entitled "Bokusui tsutsumi hanazakari no zu" or "Cherry blossoms in full bloom along Sumida River". It's interesting that three people are in Western dress. As you study this beautiful artwork, you begin to see the individual stories recorded across the triptych. Found at the US Library Of Congress.
