Description
Indigo buntings (Passerina cyanea) with their beautiful blue feathers are migratory birds. They spend spring till fall in the eastern half of the US and some lower areas of Canada, and then migrate to the Caribbean and Central America for winter. They will come to feeders frequently until the hot weather makes insects more active, and then after that only sporadically. They have a bright bouncy call and are a favorite among many birders. Taken in upstate South Carolina.
