Description
One of the most familiar birds in America, the mourning dove is so named because its soft, drawn out cooing resembles a mournful cry. One of the few birds which actually walk instead of hopping, they forage for food on the ground and when flying off, their wings make a whistling sound. Mourning doves are also game birds and are the most frequently hunted species in North America. After catching this shot, I wanted to emphasize his walking ability, hence the title!
